I wasn’t sure what to expect when my doctor and I agreed on a course of physical therapy for my back injury and the resulting lower back pain it had caused. All I knew was that the pain and discomfort limited me in doing many of my normal activities, especially my outdoor chores, recreational activities and my daily power walking. During my first visit, I came to understand that the physical therapists were interested in how I moved overall & how limited I’d become in my movement. That first visit was really a whole-body mechanics assessment of what my specific issues were and how to deal with them. Though the course of my therapy, I employed the three principles they recommended to resolve my lower back pain. The first principle they concentrated on was moving in a 3D pattern. This 3D exercise regimen included moving front to back, side to side, and in a semi-circular manner. The second principle emphasized that in order to take the burden off my lower back, I needed to enlist my “friends.” These “friends” were my hips, upper spine and my foot / ankle areas. Again, the set of exercises / movements they taught me focused on strengthening these areas to provide relief from my back pain. By moving in a 3D pattern and enlisting my friends in my movement regimen, I soon found that my overall mobility and stability (the third principle) also increased along with a marked decrease in my pain. All of the activities they recommended during each session were easy to learn. They have a unique method of having you create a video of your physical therapist doing the recommended exercise / movement at their facility. Then using their application (which is easily downloaded on your phone) they load each exercise into your specific profile so you can watch and practice each of the activities at home. Today, after completing the recommended course of physical therapy, I am pain free and able to return to all my normal activities. As a bonus, I can even snow shoe again with no pain or discomfort. I would highly recommend Superior Physical Therapy’s individualized one on one method of physical therapy. Their program not only solved my specific issue, it also provided a foundation of exercise movements and stretching that I can use well into the future. I sustained an SI joint injury at the end of mountain biking season, August/September. I put off seeing a doctor until it was so painful. I did thirteen PT sessions at another facility, the pain continued. My doctor gave me a mild pain pill and a referral to the pain clinic. Before that appointment, I attended the workshop here at Superior Physical Therapy. The staff members were so informative and made it sound like I had a chance to get relief with PT here. Absolutely good pain relief! I love all the therapists, they made it “fun” if that’s possible I also went to my pain clinic appointment, I had the consultation and I told the doctor I wanted to continue with Superior PT, I am glad I did! I feel so much better and I promised Nathaniel I’d continue the exercises at home. I just want to ride my bike again! Kudos to all the staff, you are all wonderful! I am so happy to have my life back! My back was killing me to say the least. When I came to a Saturday back pain clinic I was in pain that no words can describe. I couldn’t sit, stand, lay, or find any position that wasn’t painful. I came in the following week and started P.T. with Brooke. Come to find out my back pain starts at my foundation, my feet, and then moves up to the back. Brooke gave me some terrific stretches to do at home along with working out my kinks in the office.
